Music & Lyrics by Fabian Manzano
CLICK HERE TO BUY THE SONG ON ITUNES

I'll be honest....when I first got the album, I didn't fall in love with this song right away. It took a while for it to grow on me. I'm not really sure why. But now, I love the song!! I mean, c'mon, it was bound to happen. I love everything these guys do.

I feel kinda like a broken record, but great job, guys!! The video is a work of art. Congratulations. :)

Sneak Peek: The Dare To Believe Fan Project

Earlier this week, Boyce Avenue teased fans with a sneak peek of their new video for "When The Lights Die" creating a frenzy of excitement and anticipation.

This morning, the fans responded in kind with a teaser of their own.

A group of us were online, chatting on one of the Boyce Avenue fan pages on Facebook, when Heidi (a fan in Denmark) suggested that Emy (the brains behind the project) create and post a teaser to the guys' Facebook pages. The excitement about Heidi's suggestion was immediate, and within minutes, Emy Petraityte (Get Boyced! fan of the month for May) had created the video. Great job, Emy!! ♥

This project is such an amazing example of the love we, the BA Family, have for Boyce Avenue and the power that their music has to bring people together.

Many, many thanks to Emy and Tati Homann for all of their hard work on this project. Can't wait for July 6th!!

UPDATE: Alejandro responded to the sneak peek on Twitter!!

It's stuff like this that makes us love these guys so much. They're just so freaking cool. ♥

Alejandro Explains The Process Of "Boycing" A Song

So, today, I went and listened to Coldplay's version of "Every Teardrop" and I have to say, I do NOT like it....it's just so.....busy and noisy. Not my type of music at all. It made me appreciate the "boyced" version even more!! I'm so fascinated by Boyce Avenue's ability to take a song and make it their own while still showing respect for the original that inspired them. "Every Teardrop" is a really good example of that....it's like a completely new song, but at the same time, I can still I hear the influence of the original song. Different, yet the same, if that makes any sense.

I decided to ask Alejandro on his Facebook Wall about the process of "Boycing" a song, and to my delight, he gave a very detailed answer. :)

After flailing around the living room like the crazy fangirl that I am, I thought it would be fun to blog about it, so that I can read it whenever I want to (what? I'm not obesessed...) but also so that others who may not be on Facebook can see what Alejandro had to say. So here it is, my question, and his answer.

MELENIE:
What is the "boycing" process like? What I mean is, does it start with something as simple as hearing a song like this one, and liking it, and in your mind you hear how it would sound "boyced"? And who does the majority of the "boycing"? Is it something where you guys sit down and work together? Or do you lay the foundation and then get input from Daniel and Fabian? Or, does the process vary from song to song?

ALEJANDRO:
I usually just sit down with an acoustic and figure out how the song is played originally and all the details. What key is it in? What is the range of the vocals? what is the bpm (tempo)? What are the instruments doing? Is there a lot of iconic melodies happening? And that usually lets me know what instrument would capture ALL that the best, acoustic/electric/piano, those are the 3 main instruments and all have strengths and weaknesses, so choosing the right one is key. Plus you rarely want to compete with the original, so like Superman, I KNOW my strengths and weaknesses, I know Jon from Five For Fighting is a MUCH better pianist than me, so how could I possibly add to this piano song? Well, I've NEVER seen him play an electric so that would make ours unique and that way it becomes more difficult to compare and we will find our own audience that like the sadness the electric brings over the piano. Knowing what is too much...I could've added cajon and percussion and acoustic and made Superman a big production but it was too emotional lyrically so I kept it just one voice and one electric to really bring the listener in.

Similar decisions go into the filming [of the video]...it needed to be dark and serious, no frivolous smiling, no fast cuts and bright lights, and little panned out shots because that goes against the vulnerability of the lyrics! So it needed to be a lot of close ups to capture every little emotion, and the candles were to add some peace to the whole thing and some depth cause an image in the foreground looks more up close and personal when there is something blurry in the background, like it pulls the audience's focus on the person performing :)

Anyway, that's what goes into the audio and a little of what goes into the video. And sometimes we will do things for nostalgic reasons. Like, 3 years ago, June 2008, we covered Viva la Vida by Coldplay (their big lead single) and now, June 2011, we covered their lead single off their CURRENT album, so for nostalgic reasons we thought it would be cool for me to play acoustic and kick the pedal like I did 3 years ago...I even decided to wear the same shoes and a black shirt and jeans ;) And to film it in the same location. We thought it would be cool to make it as similar as possible to show both how far we've come (or tried to come) and how we are still doing what got us started and what has made us who we are today ;)

p.s. I wonder how many truly picked up on all that ;) Even if nobody did, it was partially for our own sentimental reasons :)

GREAT question! Hopefully a decent answer!

More than a decent answer, Alejandro, thank you so much for explaining the process to us in such great detail. ♥

NEW VIDEO - Coldplay's "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall"

YAY for new videos! This one is WAY up there at the top of my favorites list already!!

Okay, now I feel the need to say something here, but I must preface it by saying, I mean this in the most respectful, least creeperific way possible....

I. LOVE. WATCHING. THIS. MAN.

Seriously. He is the epitome of talented and sexy combined. I find it absolutely mind-blowing that he is singing, playing the guitar, and rockin' the Cajon all at the same time. Talent like this is truly a gift from God.

I turn the music up...I got my records on...
I feel my heart start beating to my favorite song
....and Heaven is in sight....

Yeah. That pretty much sums it up for me right there.

June's Featured Fan: Delma from Austin, Texas

This month's featured fan is one of Boyce Avenue's most dedicated!!

NAME: Delma
AGE: 33 years old
LOCATION: Austin, Texas
Delma at home with all her Boyce Avenue memorabilia!!  :)
How and when did you discover Boyce Avenue?
I was on Jordin Sparks' MySpace page in February of 2008. She posted videos of fans who did covers of her songs and she had Boyce Avenue's Alicia Keys/Jordin Sparks/Black Eyed Peas mashup of "No One/Tattoo" on her page. Jordin Sparks' grandmother had sent her the video to look at and she liked it and posted it on her page. Anyway, I was going through the videos and found the Boyce Avenue cover and when I heard Alejandro's voice (I did not know who he was at the time) I was like WOW! I saw the address myspace.com/boyceavenue at the end of the video, so I looked them up and saw they had a YouTube channel. I listened to cover after cover then saw a video of their original song "Find Me." I played that song and fell in love with it, especially when Alejandro said "This song is called Find Me". I have been listening to them ever since.

Your favorite Boyce Avenue cover and your favorite Boyce Avenue original song?
Favorite Cover? I don't have a favorite cover. I love them all. I can say when a new cover comes out I listen to it over and over and think to myself, how much better can these guys get?? My favorite original song is "Find Me." I don't know why, but I can listen to that song over and over. Maybe because the first BA original song I ever listened to.

How many times have you seen BA live, and where?
I have seen Boyce Avenue twice, in Austin at Emo's. First time was June of 2010 and that was just awesome. I waited 2 1/2 years and finally got my moment. I was so nervous that first time. Second time was February of 2011. I had the most awesome time and meeting them again I was excited. They are so real and down to earth. I am going to see them again September 21, 2011 and that will be the best. That's my birthday and to celebrate it BA style will be the time of my life. My husband is great taking me to these shows during the week when he has to wake up the next day at 6am to go to work.

Delma and the guys.

Tell us why you love Boyce Avenue.
When I started listening to these guys and got to know them through their music and finding out they are brothers....I felt like these guys are too good to be real. They write, produce, and do it all when it comes to their music. I started A Fans Page for the guys in June of 2008, four months after I discovered them on MySpace. After telling them all I wanted to do, they always responded with a thank you and said they always appreciate what the fans do for them. I wanted a place where the fans could share their BA experiences and their pictures. After all, without us crazy hardcore fans, where would Boyce Avenue be? What really hooked me in was when they first started touring and the fans telling me how nice and sweet they are and how they make time to meet the fans and take pictures after their shows...for me to experience that just makes you want to do more or all you can to see these guys make it. No one else deserves to [succeed] in the music industry as much as these guys do. To watch these guys grow in the three years of me [being a fan and running the Fan Page on Facebook] it has been unreal. To see how much they have traveled, and have fans from every part of the world, street teams joining together and promoting, and fan pages from all over the world popping up, makes me happy for them. I have met quite a few great BA fans from all around the world, and I am proud to say I am a Boyce Avenue fan.

Today marks the three-year anniversary of Delma's Fan Page for Boyce Avenue.  thanks for being such a great fan, Delma!! Happy BAnniversary!! ♥

NEW VIDEO - "Superman"

I know, I know....I talk about Boyce Avenue incessantly. But this is why.

As promised, the guys released a new video bright and early this morning. And as always, it's incredible.

This song suits Alejandro's voice so well, the mood and lighting are fantastic, and that guitar combined with the awesomeness of his voice is just so soothing!

Take a listen, and if you like it, the song is available as a single on iTunes.

NEW VIDEO: Just Can't Get Enough

Check out the latest video from Boyce Avenue: An acoustic cover of The Black-Eyed Peas' Just Can't Get Enough!!  They released this cover as little over a month ago on iTunes, and I love it, so I'm really excited that they've released the video for it.

Alejandro looks like he's havin' fun (I think I spotted a grin or two) and Daniel is rockin' the Cajon, as usual!  :)

As many of you know, Alejandro did a little beatboxing for this song, and a lot of us were hoping we'd see some of that in the video. This is what Ale had to say about not including his mad beatboxing skills in the video:

I'm sorry we didn't put that in there because it is just silly haha...trust me...it sounds cool but it does not LOOK cool and is boring. Executive decision. ;) Same with not showing 5 of me singing all the harmonies to Water Runs Dry. Would've looked silly to see 5 of my friggin' head singing harmonies. We always try to make a timeless video that won't date itself and part of it is in making these decisions. ;)

So, what do you think of the new video?  Share your thoughts in the comments!
